Description
Perhaps this is not quite the correct forum to discuss this, but I have
decided to use every resource at my disposal.
I have a number of Iwill Xa100plus motherboards, which use the Aladdin V
chipset. I have been unable to access the 7101 (?) device necessary for
hardware monitoring.
After a thorough search of the BIOS options, I e-mailed Iwill tech support,
whom repied to the effect that the board does not have the necessary components
for hardware monitoring.
Does this mean I cannot monitor my 3dfx card? Or am I correct in my
understanding that the ALi SMBus is for the board hardware monitoring chips, and
the 3dfx SMBus stands alone?
I also have some doubts as to whehter or not the reply I recieved from tech
support was correct. The ALi chipset has the SMBus, so is there anything there
to access? Has anyone had any experience with these boards, successful or
otherwise?
Should I read the docs more thouroghly? I'm not sure I understand the
relations of all the devices to one another, but the docs haven't helped much.
In any case, the ALi section of the buses documentation on this site lists
the Iwill Xa100plus as a board with a Aladdin V chipset. While this is true, if
it is unusable, this note might want to be changed or omitted.
Thank you for any help.

--- Never heard of this motherboard before.
You only need the Ali SMBus if you have things you want
to look at on that bus. But you will need the 7101 device
enabled to use it. If that device is not listed in lspci
then you must have it enabled in the BIOS or you are out of luck.
However, you may have sensor devices on the ISA bus.
Then you don't need the Ali.
The 3dfx SMBus definitely stands alone. But it is not likely
to have sensor chips on it.
Your best bet is to look carefully at the motherboard for
chips that might be sensor chips and compare them to the list
of chips we support listed in our README file.
