sensors v3.0.0 has garbage char in output

Reported by: ticket Owned by: khali
Priority: trivial Milestone:
Component: sensors Version: 3.0.0
Keywords: Cc: vince@…

Description

There is a x'C2' character between the last digit of the temp and the "degree" symbole. +30.0? x'2b33302e30c2b0' it shows up for all my temperature displays. Simple to create sensors >tensors.txt

For some reason, vim and less don't display the extra characters, but my printer does. Shows up as an 'A' with a little hat on it.

Check your locale. 0xc2 0xb0 is not garbage, it's the UTF-8 sequence for the degree symbol. Most likely you use an UTF-8 locale, and vim and less support UTF-8 properly, which is why you don't see anything wrong there. If your printed doesn't like UTF-8, either change your locale before running "sensors", or convert the output file before you send it to your printer.

OK, I used cups from Fedora F8 and the garbage is gone. Apparently the old version has a problem honoring my local. I'd say close this problem. thanks for your help.

The pressure is building to make me upgrade from F6.

again, tnx.
