when I do a ""make clean"" ""make menuconfig"", I see the I2c submenu and the
Hardware Sensors submenu but I can't find the AMD756 support anywhere although
it is supported via the module version of lm_sensors 2.4.5

True. The AMD driver is still in beta, and until we consider it stable, it won't
be in the patches. You'll have to compile it as a separate module.
